Description
This 40 hour course provides students with basic knowledge and skill training in the rescue procedures to be followed in the event of an accident at a Surface mining operation. Some of the topics covered include: Mine Rescue Operations, Mine Gases- Recognition, Effects and Treatment, Oxygen Therapy, Gas-Detection Instruments, Fire Awareness, Respiratory Protective Equipment, Electrical Safety, Rescue Rigging, Rescue Operations, Special Hazards of Winter Conditions, Scene Assessment and Incident Command, Knots/ Harnesses, Pulleys, Stretcher Tie-ins. YWCHSB endorsed, the Mine Rescue training is instructed to the BC Mine Rescue manual and candidates examined by a YWCHSB Safety Officer. Instructors involved in this program are all Yukon Instructor Mine Rescue Certificated. Prerequisites include: Participants must hold a valid First Aid certificate. There will be pre-work assigned by the Mine Rescue Training instructor. Participants will be working from the B.C. Mine Rescue Training Manual and Curriculum: http://www.empr.gov.bc.ca/Mining/HealthandSafety/minerescue/Pages/manual.aspx Please note that evening study and prep work will be required for successful completion of this course. Certification is dependent on 100% participation and achieving a passing grade on both the written examination and the practical demonstrations.
